- @6The A601 expansion from Commodore: by Viper of CBH:--
-
- Costs 19.99 and adds 512k to the 1Meg in the A600.
- @5
-
- This expansion is small, has a metal back and is err, very
-
- expandable.
-
- Installing the little board is no problem at all, unlike other boards,
-
- this one actually IS made for the A600 expansion port and fits in
-
- pretty well.
-
- Once installed it's just a case of closing the trapdoor and switching
-
- on.
-
- There isn't a difference to the speed of the A600 as the A601 only
-
- adds memory to the existing chipmem, but if you wanted a speed increase
-
- you would have bought the 620, wouldn't you? #7More>>>
- @5
- I tried running a few games from workbench which usually didn't
-
- run, such as Monkey Island 2, it worked! WahheeeeyyyY!!!!
-
- I also use Scala quite often and usually find that the scripts run
-
- the standard A600 out of memory quickly, not any more.
-
- I recommend people buy the A601 and add fastram to the PCMCIA port,
-
- you can then have plenty of chip ram and plenty of fast, this used
-
- to cost a fortune, but you could buy a 1meg internal upgrade for just
-
- under 30 quid and a cheap second hand 4Meg expansion for around a
-
- hundred quid (or less). So now there's no excuse when games and
-
- applications ask for 2Meg or more.
-
- If anyone does buy this expansion then DON'T expect it to make your
-
- A600 run faster!!! That's about all I can say really. #7More>>>
-
- @5Well built
-
- As easy as installing something else which is very easy to install,
-
- such as the A601 expansion which IS, very easy to install.
-
- (didn't make much sense to me either-Ed.)
-
- Works well, no known problems.
-
- Overall 89% Good as far as expansions go.
-
-
- P.S:-- Support the lonely A600 user group. (no thanks-Ed)
-
-
- I'll see you next month with an even smaller article than this ----
-
- maybe.
